Senate Bill would Create Weather Mitigation Research and Advisory Board (25 kb)

Senate Bill S.1807 was introduced on July 17, 2007. The bill would create a federal research and advisory board to administer $10 million in annual research grants. The bill has been assigned to the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation committee.

WGA Releases Report touting cloud seeding

The Western Governor's Association (WGA) has released a report entitled Water Needs and Strategies for a Sustainable Future. The report discusses the current state of water resources in the West and makes recommendations to address present and future population growth. Weather modification is recognized as a tool for increasing water supplies and is a recommended component of a multi-faceted solution to increasing the West's future water supply.

Colorado River Cloud Seeding Potential (669 kb)

A second white paper entitled The Potential Use of Cloud Seeding Programs to Augment the Flow of the Colorado River has been published by Don Griffith and Mark Solak of North American Weather Consultants. The paper discusses the potential use and impacts of winter cloud seeding in the upper Colorado river basin to increase river flows and water availability downstream.

A workshop on the potential impacts of cloud seeding in the Colorado River basin was held in Boulder, CO on June 20-21, 2006. The agenda included federal, regional, and state perspectives on cloud seeding research and operations opportunities in the basin.
